The Canton Fair 2026, officially the China Import and Export Fair, is the largest trade exhibition in the world. Held twice a year in Guangzhou, it draws global buyers, importers, sourcing agents, and manufacturers from over 210 countries and regions. If you want to source products from China, meet verified suppliers, or grow your international supply chain, this complete buyer guide walks you through the entire process — from visa requirements and registration to negotiation, payments, and post-fair follow-up.
What This Guide Covers
1. Registration & China Business Visa
To attend the Canton Fair, buyers must pre-register online via the official Canton Fair website. Once registered, you'll receive a digital invitation letter — the document required to apply for a China business visa (M visa).
This visa is essential for attending trade fairs, visiting factories, or signing deals in China. While visa-free entry may apply to some nationalities, business travelers are strongly advised to apply for the proper visa class to avoid problems at customs.
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months, and prepare supporting documents — hotel bookings, your invitation letter, and a return flight itinerary — to ensure smooth approval.

2. Buyer Badge & Entry Access
To enter the Pazhou Complex, you'll need a Canton Fair Buyer Badge. This badge is your ID and access pass throughout the event.
First-time attendees collect their badge at the venue or at designated Canton Fair hotels in Guangzhou. Bring your original passport, invitation letter, and registration confirmation for verification. Returning buyers can often reuse a previous badge for faster access, but updating your registration online is still recommended.
No badge means no entry — even for registered buyers. Don't leave the hotel without it.
3. Navigating the Venue & the Three Phases
The Canton Fair is massive — spanning over 1.1 million square meters. It runs in three distinct phases, each grouped by industry so you can target exactly the sectors you source from:
Phase 1
Electronics, household appliances, lighting, machinery, building materials, hardware & tools.
Phase 2
Consumer goods, gifts, home décor, furniture, ceramics, kitchenware & household items.
Phase 3
Textiles, garments, shoes, office supplies, medical & health products, and food.
Use the official Canton Fair app to find your product category, exhibitor hall, and booth numbers. Planning ahead saves time and ensures you don't miss key suppliers — and booking meetings in advance with verified manufacturers helps secure exclusive deals. For exact dates and which phase to attend, see our Canton Fair 2026 dates guide.

4. Negotiation & Chinese Business Culture
Doing business in China rewards professionalism and relationship-building. Bring plenty of business cards, exchange them respectfully with both hands, and take careful notes on pricing, MOQs (Minimum Order Quantities), and delivery terms.
Ask for product samples, negotiate volume pricing, and clarify Incoterms, lead times, and payment methods up front. Customization requests and MOQs both affect pricing, so confirm them early. A translator can help, but most sellers at the Canton Fair speak business-level English.

5. Payments, Samples & Logistics
Before committing, request samples and agree clear terms. Common payment methods include T/T (bank wire), L/C (letter of credit) for larger orders, and increasingly Alipay or WeChat Pay for smaller deposits. Use a secure escrow or trade-assurance method where possible, and never wire a full balance before confirming production quality.
Clarify your Incoterms — EXW, FOB, and CIF all shift who pays for freight, insurance, and customs. For sea freight, FOB (with your own freight forwarder) is the most common choice for experienced importers. Confirm lead times, packaging, and inspection arrangements in writing before you leave the booth.
Need to move money internationally? Major options include Wise and Payoneer for lower-fee transfers, while verified suppliers can be cross-checked on Alibaba.
6. Beyond the Fair: Guangzhou's Wholesale Markets
The Canton Fair runs for a limited window, but Guangzhou's wholesale markets operate year-round. If you have extra days, the city's sourcing districts let you find fashion, electronics, furniture, and more — often at lower MOQs than the fair itself. Guangzhou's position in the Greater Bay Area makes it a natural base surrounded by manufacturing clusters.

7. How to Maximize Your ROI
Make the most of your visit by attending networking events, B2B matchmaking sessions, and industry seminars. These offer valuable insight into market trends, product innovations, and China's export policies.
Frequent or high-volume buyers should consider the VIP Buyer Program for private meeting lounges, custom sourcing support, and priority services. After the event, follow up quickly — request quotes, confirm samples, and begin order negotiations while you're still fresh in the supplier's mind.

8. Tools to Stay Organised
Sourcing at scale quickly outgrows spreadsheets. Between supplier contacts, MOQs, quotes, samples, and landed-cost calculations, the buyers who win are the ones who stay organised. Essential apps for a smooth trip include WeChat and Alipay (communication and payment), Didi (transport), the official Canton Fair app (maps and exhibitors), and a dedicated sourcing workspace like Sourcy to track suppliers, compare quotes, and monitor margins in one place.
