This Privacy Policy explains how Zhujianger (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Hong Kong Guide mobile application (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you choose to provide

Signing in is optional. The App can be used without creating an account. If you choose to sign in, we use Firebase Authentication to create and manage your account. Depending on the sign-in method you select, this may include your email address or a unique identifier provided by your chosen sign-in provider. We do not store your password; authentication is handled securely by Firebase.

Information collected automatically

When you use the App, certain information is collected automatically to help us understand usage and improve stability and performance:

• Usage and analytics data, such as which sections of the App are opened, general interaction events, device type, operating system version, app version, and a non-identifying app instance identifier, collected through Firebase Analytics.
• Crash and diagnostic data, such as crash logs, error reports, and device state at the time of a crash, collected through Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix problems.

Information stored only on your device

Your saved favourites and in-app preferences are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us, unless this data is associated with an optional signed-in account for the purpose of syncing.

2. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review them:

• Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics) — provided by Google. See the Firebase Privacy and Security information and the Google Privacy Policy.
• Open-Meteo — used to display weather forecasts. Requests may include an approximate location to return relevant weather data.
• Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) — used to display typhoon and weather warning signals from publicly available data.
• Frankfurter API — used to display live currency exchange rates. These requests do not include personal information.

We do not display third-party advertising in the App, and we do not use advertising or marketing tracking SDKs.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

• Provide and maintain the App and its features.
• Manage optional accounts and, where applicable, sync your favourites.
• Understand how the App is used so we can improve content and usability.
• Detect, diagnose, and fix crashes, bugs, and performance issues.
• Maintain the security and integrity of the App.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on the following legal bases: your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), the performance of a contract when you use an optional account, and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the App.

5. Data Retention

We retain analytics and diagnostic data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, in line with the default retention settings of the relevant Firebase services. If you create an optional account, we retain associated account data until you request deletion or the account is closed.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, and to data portability. These rights are provided under regulations such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

You can:

• Use the App without signing in, to minimise the data associated with you.
• Request deletion of your optional account and associated data by contacting us.
• Limit certain analytics collection through your device’s operating system privacy settings.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

8. International Data Transfers

The third-party services we use may process and store data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, these providers implement safeguards for international transfers in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

9. Security

We rely on industry-standard security measures provided by Firebase and our other service providers to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may be communicated through the App or our website. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
